Business with a Heart:
We would like to recognize Aventura as this month’s Business with a Heart. Aventura is family-owned and operated and has a legacy dating back to 1965. They are dedicated to creating stylish, comfortable clothes with a low environmental impact. In 2001, John Kirsch, the company’s president, began researching organic and sustainable fibers to make clothing with, and Aventura took off in 2006. Aventura has a brother brand called Ecōths, which started in 2014. Both brands avoid the use of synthetic fertilizers, chemical pesticides, and genetic engineering, and they are able to track their cotton from the farm to the factory to ensure that they are always working to reduce their footprint. Aventura is one of our biggest clothing contributors. Our clients love receiving Aventura dresses, skirts, tops and pants. We are sincerely grateful for their kindness and generosity. They are truly a business with a heart of gold.
Also, special thanks to U by Karen Klein who are donating one piece of clothing to UT for every piece sold on #GivingTuesday, and Adrian Allen Shoes who is donating 10% of Black Friday sales to UT.
WHY THIS VOLUNTEER WAS MOVED TO DONATE $10,000
“Over the years I have volunteered at a multitude of non-profits, but there has not been one that has moved me quite the way Uncommon Threads has.” -From a recent donor (and volunteer)
Everyday our volunteers are moved by the way Uncommon Threads touches the lives of struggling women. For Uncommon Threads is more than clothes. It’s women helping women. It’s nurturing, caring and support. Our volunteers share hugs, stories and tears with our clients. There’s a connection that goes far beyond a “clothing program”. Uncommon Threads empowers women…clients and volunteers alike. It is this connection that moved our volunteer to donate $10,000 to ensure that we continue the important work of building women’s self-esteem and self-confidence in a warm, caring and safe environment.
We need your support to help us double the number of women we will serve this year.
“We hope that with this donation that you can worry a little bit less about the financial part for a few more months and more about the women you are serving.”
Without our wonderful supporters who believe deeply in the work we are doing, Susan Kanoff’s vision for an empowerment boutique would not have been realized.
“I love your energy, your heart, your passion and your desire to make the world a better place one woman at a time!”
